Galaxy Playdough

This playdough was one of my favorites – it’s vibrant and so sparkly! It’s fairly easy to make and lasted a SUPER long time. We added white poker chips, clear glass beads, and glow in the dark stars (plus one astronaut rubber duckie) to make the night sky. The dark dough did get stuck under our finger nails, but it was easy to clean up so that didn’t bother me much.

WHAT YOU NEED:
2 cups of plain flour
2 cups of water with black and blue food coloring
1 Tbsp. vegetable oil
1 Tbsp. cream of tartar
1 cup of salt
Colorful glitter (we used blue, purple and black)

INSTRUCTIONS:
Start by mixing liquid ingredients in a large pan, then heat liquids on medium heat.

In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients and then add to the heating liquids. Turn heat to low temperature to avoid burning the dough, then stir constantly until the dough gathers and thickens.

Cook until the dough gets a sheen to it. Let it cool slightly and then knead to bring proper consistency.

Next, on a plastic tray or wax paper, spread glitter on the flat surface, then place dough on top and knead the glitter into it. Add to desired sparkle-level.

To store: We wrapped the playdough in plastic cling wrap, then in a Ziploc bag and it lasted for a very long time. (Ours lasted over a year, but we didn’t play with it much in-between the first week and then the next usage a year later.)

Based on the recipe from Fairy Dust Teaching.
